    Landscape Manager

    Full-Time Position

    Report to: The Director of Grounds/Golf Course Superintendent

    Position Overview

    Catawba Island Club is seeking a skilled and motivated Landscape Manager to oversee all landscape operations across the property. This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in creating exceptional outdoor environments and understands the standards expected at Catawba Island Club. The Landscape Manager will lead the team responsible for maintaining gardens, ornamental areas, naturalized spaces, and all non-play course landscapes.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily landscape maintenance activities, including mowing, edging, pruning, planting, mulching, and debris removal.
    • Maintain ornamental beds, trees, shrubs, and natural areas to ensure a polished, high-end appearance throughout the property.
    • Work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent to ensure landscape areas enhance course aesthetics and complement playability.
    • Manage seasonal projects such as annual flower planting, leaf clean-up, snow removal coordination, and event-related landscape preparation.
    • Oversee irrigation systems in landscaped areas, including scheduling, troubleshooting, coordinating repairs, and installing irrigation around the clubhouse and golf course.
    • Train, mentor, and evaluate landscape staff; ensure safe and efficient work practices.
    • Monitor plant health, diagnose pest or disease issues, and coordinate appropriate treatments.
    • Assist with budgeting, purchasing materials, and maintaining accurate records of landscape operations.
    • Operate and maintain landscape equipment, ensuring proper care and safety.
    • Uphold the club’s standards of excellence in all landscape areas.

    Qualifications

    • 3 to 5 years of experience in landscape management, horticulture, groundskeeping, or related fields.
    • Strong knowledge of plant care, turf basics, irrigation systems, and landscape design principles.
    • Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team.
    • Familiarity with safe operation of landscape equipment and tools.
    • Strong organizational and communication abilities.
    • Willingness to work early mornings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours during peak seasons.

    Superintendent Position Available

    Job Summary:

    The Superintendent is responsible for supporting the Golf Course Maintenance Team’s day-to-day operations. The responsibilities include developing and managing turf grass and plant material maintenance programs; overseeing property and asset management; managing personnel; handling budgeting, forecasting, and financial management; participating in member retention initiatives; scheduling and maintaining irrigation systems; applying pesticides and maintaining related records; and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements. The job’s oversight is limited to a single 18-hole operation.

    Day-to-Day:

    • Provide agronomic oversight to ensure the healthy growth of golf course grasses, trees, wetlands, and other plant materials.
    • Supervise chemical applications and record-keeping, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
    • Oversee the safe operation, use, and maintenance of golf course mechanical equipment, planning and budgeting for additional or replacement equipment as needed.
    • Maintain the golf course to the highest standards, following company and industry guidelines.
    • Control expenses related to golf course operations and adhere to the budget.
    • Collaborate with the Head Golf Professional to optimize rounds of golf while scheduling maintenance practices around members play and events.
    • Regularly communicate with members to ensure the club exceeds their expectations.
    • Ensure staff training in OSHA, club safety, and state and federal guidelines to maintain safe working conditions.
    • Provide ongoing technical, operational, and safety training for staff, fostering a culture of compliance and safety.

    About You:

    Required

    • An associates and/or bachelor’s degree in Turf Management or a related field.
    • A minimum of 3 years of experience in Golf Course Maintenance.
    • A minimum of 1 year of experience in preparing and managing budgets for the golf course and landscape maintenance departments.
    • A minimum of 1 year of technical knowledge of all equipment, products, and resources related to golf course operations with the ability to implement these resources to meet or exceed company and club standards.
    • Current State Pesticide Applicators License or successfully completed within 90 days of employment.
    • Valid driver’s license.

    Preferred

    • Thorough knowledge of general business administration practices and golf course operations practices and procedures.
    • Direct supervisory experience preferred with proven ability to maintain confidentiality of Club, Company, and personnel information

    About Westbrook Country Club

    Founded in 1906, Westbrook is a privately owned (not owned or operated by the members) private club nestled in the rolling hills of Mansfield, Ohio. The Donald Ross design takes full advantage of the over 100 feet of elevation change to showcase splendid views. Since being sold in 2021, the new owners have built a 300-person event center, a 38,000 square foot clubhouse addition, and are remodeling an adjoining building into hotel guest suites and condos exclusively for members. Many upcoming golf course projects, including a complete golf course renovation with a new irrigation system, new maintenance facility, and a Par 3 short course will provide Westbrook exactly what the owners want: a true upscale private club golf destination. Terrific opportunity to help lead a full Donald Ross Course renovation (start June ’27 thru June ’28). Position is available immediately.

    Position Summary

    Westbrook CC is seeking a self-motivated, detail-oriented Assistant Superintendent to support daily golf course maintenance while playing an active role in planning and implementing the upcoming renovation. The Assistant Superintendent will work closely with the Superintendent and will assume responsibility in the Superintendent’s absence.

    The successful candidate will have a positive attitude and strong work ethic, be a team player, self-starter, self-motivated and flexible to adapt on the fly.

    Key Responsibilities

    Assist in planning, organizing, and managing daily maintenance operations. Implement and execute agronomic programs including fertilization, irrigation, and pesticide applications. Supervise, train maintenance staff, and assist in scheduling. Assist in operation, troubleshooting, and repair of irrigation system. Scout and monitor golf course and recommend improvements. Assist in planning and scheduling of contractors during construction.

    Qualifications

    Associate or B.S. degree in turf or related field. 2-4 years of golf course maintenance experience with supervisory experience. Strong understanding of agronomic and management practices. Ohio pesticide license or ability to obtain one in near future.

    Proven leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays.

    Key responsibilities, skills, aptitude, and knowledge:

    • Inspects, diagnoses and repairs mechanical defects/failures in various golf course maintenance equipment, including: diesel-, electric- and gasoline-powered equipment, trenchers, rollers, mowers, and other mechanical equipment used in utility work
    • Instructs and/or trains golf course maintenance workers regarding preventive maintenance, and the proper cleaning of and safe operation of equipment
    • Maintains a preventive maintenance program within budget on all equipment, and purchases repair parts and replacement supplies
    • Keeps a complete set of records for equipment and parts inventory purchases, equipment conditions, costs of repairs and preventive maintenance for all equipment
    • Able to operate a computer to organize record-keeping and find parts/vendors/etc
    • Spot checks equipment for performance on the course, makes emergency repairs to equipment on the course, and services or supervises servicing of equipment prior to use
    • Oversees the shop area maintenance
    • Regulates employees' use of equipment in absence of superintendent and assistant superintendent, if needed, and performs other duties as directed by the superintendent
    • Recommends equipment purchases and leases
    • Evaluates and modernizes the existing preventive maintenance program
    • Assess the shop infrastructure and collaborate on long-term upgrade plans
    • Weekends and Holidays may be required based on golf course schedule, equipment issues, superintendent’s discretion

    Education and Experiences

    • High school diploma preferred
    • Valid driver’s license
    • Golf course equipment experience preferred. Candidates without it will be considered if they have strong small engine repair skills, mechanical ability, and a willingness to learn.

    Physical and Environmental Requirements:

    • Prolonged periods standing and walking
    • Able to bend, crouch, stretch, push, pull and move as needed
    • Must be able to visually inspect machinery, materials, and course quality
    • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs

    Assistant Golf Course Superintendent

    The City of Groveport, Ohio, is central Ohio's small town. Groveport is a growing City in southeastern Franklin County. The community has a state of the art recreation and aquatic center, a world class golf course, an excellent arts and education program, several parks and a quaint Main Street historic area. We are looking for an Assistant Golf Superintendent to join our team and work closely with the staff at the Golf Course.     SUMMARY: Assist the Golf course Superintendent with the daily maintenance of the golf course and property.

    QUALIFICATIONS:  An example of acceptable qualifications:

    Completion of secondary education or equivalent; two (2) years of golf course grounds keeping experience; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities; must be able to be on-call 24 hours.

    LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:  

    Must possess the ability to obtain first aid/CPR certification first available training session after hire; must possess Commercial Applicator certification; must possess a valid Ohio driver's license and maintain insurability under the Municipality's vehicle insurance policy.

    55%     (1)  Performs general golf course and facility upkeep (e.g., mows tees, fairways, greens, and rough;  rakes sand traps; lays sod; plants flowers, trees, and bushes; cuts holes, sets tee markers; waters tees, fairways, and greens; trims trees and bushes; performs maintenance on cart paths, benches, walkways, buildings, shelters, drinking fountains, restrooms, irrigation, and drainage systems, etc.); operates heavy equipment. 

    20%     (2)  Supervises grounds maintenance workers and seasonal grounds maintenance workers (e.g., assigns tasks to employees, serves as superintendent in the superintendent's absence, trains new employees in grounds keeping, resolves questions of grounds maintenance workers, etc.). 

    20%     (3)  Performs turf management (e.g., applies fertilizer, pesticides, and herbicides; aerates tees, fairways, and greens; cuts greens; oversees selected areas of the golf course; etc.). 

    5%       (4)  Performs snow removal as necessary; services a variety of equipment as needed (e.g., mowers, trucks, edgers, chain saws, line trimmer's utility vehicles, golf carts, etc.).

    (5)  Maintains contact with vendors, the general public, and various government agencies/officials in order to obtain or disseminate information related to the essential position functions.

    (6)   Maintains required licensures and certification.

    (7)  Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.

This is a senior leadership role reporting directly to the General Manager and overseeing agronomic operations across two championship-level Arthur Hills designed courses.

    Job Title: Equipment Mechanic

    Position Summary
    We are seeking a skilled and reliable Equipment Mechanic to join our team. The Equipment Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and servicing all golf course maintenance equipment, ensuring it operates safely and efficiently. This position works closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and maintenance staff to support daily operations.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Perform routine preventative maintenance and repairs on mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, and small engines.

    • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues; order and install replacement parts as needed.

    • Maintain accurate service and repair records for all equipment.

    • Ensure cutting units are sharpened and adjusted for proper performance.

    • Keep the shop area clean, organized, and safe.

    • Assist with training staff on proper equipment operation and care.

    • Communicate equipment needs or safety concerns to the Superintendent.

    Qualifications

    • Previous experience as a mechanic (golf course, turf, or agricultural equipment experience preferred).

    • Strong knowledge of small engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and diesel/gas-powered equipment.

    • Ability to read and interpret service manuals and schematics.

    • Welding and fabrication skills are a plus.

    • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

    • Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively.

    Job Title: Golf Course Superintendent

    Location: Blacklick Woods Golf Course- Reynoldsburg, OH

    Job Type: Full-time

    About the Role:

    Blacklick Woods Golf Course is a municipal facility run by Franklin County Metro Parks that features an 18-hole Championship Course and 9-hole executive course. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Golf Course Superintendent to lead and manage the maintenance of our courses and driving range. This is a hands-on position requiring strong knowledge in all aspects of golf course maintenance.

    Key Responsibilities:

    · Plan and supervise all aspects of golf course maintenance, including turf care, irrigation, and landscaping.

    · Develop and implement agronomic programs to ensure the health and playability of the course.

    · Operate and maintain turf care equipment

    · Manage and supervise a team of four full-time and eight part-time staff, providing training and performance oversight.

    · Ensure adherence to Park District rules, regulations, and policies.

    · Apply fertilizers and chemicals in accordance with industry standards

    · Oversee and maintain irrigation systems, with a strong understanding of irrigation practices

    · Manage and maintain a variety of different grasses, including Zoysia, to optimal playing conditions.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    · Prior experience in golf course maintenance as a superintendent or assistant superintendent

    · Turfgrass/Agronomy degree or education

    · Possession of an Ohio pesticide applicator’s license.

    · Expertise in chemical application and turf management

    · In-depth knowledge of irrigation systems and Zoysia grass care

    · Strong leadership and communication skills

    · GCSAA membership preferred
