Glenn B. Hudson Memorial Fund

A World War II veteran, Glenn B. Hudson returned to Ohio and worked as a superintendent and golf professional. In the early 1960´s, Glenn moved to Columbus to become superintendent of the once-private Walnut Hill Country Club. Walnut Hill played host for several Ladies PGA Tournaments.When the city of Columbus obtained the course, Glenn performed superintendent and consultant duties.


Glenn Joined COGCSA in 1959, and was a member for many years, serving on various committees. In the late early 1960`s, membership and attendance had deteriorated. When he became president of the association, Glenn spent many hours building the membership, and working to gain respect for the organization. Glenn Hudson is generally credited with saving the Central Ohio association and building a strong, professional membership base.

Glenn was know as a behind-the-scenes worker, an invaluable help to fellow superintendents, and a great practical joker. His wife Mary and their three daughters were the Most important people in his life. Sadly, Glenn passed away in the fall of 1986, but his unselfish dedication to the golf industry will be remembered always.

About the Memorial Fund

During the mid-1980's, several Central Ohio Superintendents organized the Glenn B. Hudson Memorial Fund, to honor Glenn`s achievements and dedication to the golf industry. The Fund generates monies for scholarships, which are awarded by the OGCSA Scholarship Committee through an application process. Scholarships are awarded annually to deserving Ohio turfgrass management student(s).

The first fundraising golf tournament was held at Scioto Country Club on August 18, 1986. Subsequent tournament were held at Riviera Country Club on June 29, 1987, at New Albany Country Club on October 20, 1997, and at Zanesville Country Club on October 9, 2000.

The first $1,000 Glenn B. Hudson Memorial Scholarship was awarded in December 1986. Unfortunately, Glenn Hudson was not able to witness the first award, as he passed away earlier that fall. The recipient of the first scholarship was Carl Wittenauer, who is presently the superintendent at Brookside Golf and Country Club and is a past president of the chapter.

Up to $8,000 is available annually through the Glenn B. Hudson Memorial Scholarship. Applications are due by November 20th!
